WhatsApp Template Message :

  • Business initiated conversation
  • Along with the end-to-end encryption provided by the platform, WhatsApp has implemented a layer of manual checks, to ensure the outbound notifications from Businesses are spam proof and contain only important or relevant information.
  • Template messages use pre-approved message templates for outbound notifications like delivery alerts and appointment reminders.
  • You must use a Template Message if more than 24 hours (24-hour window) have elapsed since the user last responded to you.
  • A Message template can only contain text, hyperlinks, emojis or WhatsApp-specific formatting.
  • Message templates are plain text messages.
  • Media is supported – Jpeg, png, pdf, MP4.
  • Individually approved by the WhatsApp team to ensure they do not violate the WhatsApp policies
    This type of message is paid.
  • A template has no more than 1024 characters.
  • You can have a maximum of 250 templates for your account.
  • A template can be requested in many languages and will be counted only as one template.

WhatsApp Session Message :

  • Customer initiated conversation
  • WhatsApp Session messages are any messages sent and received in response to a user-initiated message to your application.
  • A messaging session starts when a user sends your application a message (inbound message), and lasts for 24 hours from the most recently received message.
  • Known as 24-hour session window (Customer Care Window).
  • The 24-hour window is reset every time you receive an inbound message from the customer. 
  • Freeform text is permitted
  • You can wait for users to message your app, or you can send a Template Message to invite the user to respond.
